01 / For Individuals & Families

Geriatric Care Advisory

Not your family doctor, but a doctor in your family.

Independent, physician-led guidance for older adults and their families to understand medical and care situations, navigate difficult decisions, and plan their next steps with greater clarity.

Why Geriatric Care Advisory?

Caring for an older parent or family member can become overwhelming when multiple doctors, medical conditions, reports, medications, and care decisions are involved.

Even without a specific medical crisis, you may want to understand their overall health, identify concerns, or assess what kind of care they need.

Geriatric Care Advisory helps you:

  • Understand the overall medical and care situation.
  • Make sense of reports, diagnoses, treatments, and professional opinions.
  • Identify important concerns and priorities.
  • Understand available care and support options.
  • Plan practical next steps.
  • Have someone by your side whom you or your elderly family member can talk to and seek guidance from about the challenges you are facing.

The aim is to provide an independent, physician-led perspective that complements existing medical care and helps you feel informed, confident, and prepared.

When Can Geriatric Care Advisory Help?

Consider an advisory when:

  • You want an overall assessment of an older adult's medical and care needs.
  • You have a medical or care-related question that you would like to discuss and understand better.
  • You need guidance following hospital discharge.
  • Multiple medical conditions, medications, or doctors make care difficult to coordinate.
  • You need help understanding medical reports, diagnoses, or treatment plans.
  • Different medical opinions leave you uncertain about your options.
  • You want to understand what level of rehabilitation, nursing, or caregiver support may be appropriate.
  • You need medical counselling or help organising and prioritising an older adult's care.

Every advisory is tailored to the older adult's individual circumstances, concerns, and preferences.

If the requirement is instead for a routine doctor consultation, medical examination, diagnosis, prescription, or treatment, a separate Standard Clinical Consultation may be more appropriate.

02 / Focused Advisory

Focused Geriatric Care Advisory (FGCA)

Have a specific medical question or concern about an elderly family member?

FGCA offers a straightforward way to consult a doctor for guidance on a specific issue without undergoing a comprehensive assessment.

Whether you have questions about medical reports, diagnoses, existing treatment plans, professional opinions, or the next steps in care, the consultation focuses on your specific concern.

What Is Included?

  • Discussion of your medical question or concern.
  • Review of relevant reports, prescriptions, or medical records.
  • Explanation of available options and appropriate next steps.
  • Recommendations for further medical or specialist review, where necessary.

A single consultation may be sufficient. If further record review or discussion is required, a second consultation may be recommended.

A brief written summary may be provided where appropriate.

03 / Clinical Care

Standard Clinical Consultations

Sometimes, what is needed is simply a regular doctor consultation rather than a geriatric advisory.

Standard Clinical Consultations are for older adults requiring routine medical assessment, treatment, or follow-up care.

They may be suitable for:

  • New symptoms or common medical concerns.
  • Routine health check-ups.
  • Review or follow-up of an existing medical condition.
  • Assessment of relevant investigations or reports.
  • Physical examination during a home visit.
  • Prescriptions and treatment where clinically appropriate.
  • Advice regarding further investigations.
  • Referral to a specialist or hospital when required.

Understanding the scope

What Geriatric Care Advisory Is and Is Not

Geriatric Care Advisory provides independent medical guidance, counselling, record review, assessment of care needs, and recommendations to help older adults and their families make informed decisions.

It does not replace treating doctors, provide emergency care, prescribe or independently change medications, or take over active treatment.

When specialist expertise, urgent assessment, or additional treatment is required, appropriate further medical care will be recommended.

These limitations apply specifically to Geriatric Care Advisory.

Standard Clinical Consultations are a separate conventional medical service and may include clinical assessment, diagnosis, prescriptions, investigations, treatment advice, and follow-up where appropriate and within the doctor's professional scope.

02 / For Elderly Care Organisations

Elderly Care Quality and Operations (ECQO) Review

A structured review of your elderly care organisation's quality systems, operations, care processes and key areas for improvement.

Delivering consistent elderly care requires more than good intent. Clinical coordination, resident safety, staff workflows, documentation, family communication and quality systems must work together reliably.

The Elderly Care Quality and Operations (ECQO) Review provides an independent, structured assessment of how these systems function within your organisation.

The objective is to identify meaningful gaps and risks, recognise existing strengths, and provide management with clear, practical priorities for improvement.

What We Review

Depending on the organisation and scope of engagement, the ECQO Review may assess:

  • Admission, assessment and care planning
  • Nursing and caregiver workflows
  • Medication-related processes
  • Clinical deterioration and escalation
  • Emergency preparedness and transfers
  • Falls and other elderly-specific safety risks
  • Documentation and shift handovers
  • Incident reporting and follow-up
  • Family communication
  • Staff training and competency systems
  • Existing policies, SOPs, forms and checklists
  • Quality monitoring and management oversight

How the Review Works

  1. Pre-assessment

Review of key organisational information and relevant existing documents.

  2. On-site assessment

Observation of selected processes, discussions with management and staff, and review of relevant records and systems.

  3. Gap and risk analysis

Evaluation of findings based on their impact on resident safety, quality of care and operational reliability.

  4. Management review

Discussion of key findings, priorities and recommended next steps.

The report

What You Receive

The engagement concludes with a structured ECQO Review Report, which may include:

  • Assessment of key quality and operational domains
  • Significant observations and identified gaps
  • Priority safety and operational risks
  • Key improvement priorities
  • Basic organisational risk register
  • Practical recommendations for major findings
  • 30, 60 and 90-day improvement roadmap
  • Management review of findings and next steps

Practical Improvement, Not Just Documentation

The ECQO Review is not intended to create unnecessary paperwork or provide generic policies and SOPs.

The focus is on understanding what is working, what requires attention, where meaningful risks exist, and what can realistically be improved within the organisation's current context.

Recommendations are prioritised to help management focus on changes that can strengthen resident safety, care quality and operational consistency.

Who Is It For?

The ECQO Review may be suitable for:

  • Elderly and geriatric care centres
  • Assisted living and residential care facilities
  • Long-term care organisations
  • Palliative and supportive care facilities
  • Rehabilitation and transitional care centres
  • Home healthcare organisations providing elderly care
  • New or growing elderly care organisations

ECQO Scope

Scope

The ECQO Review is an advisory and diagnostic service focused on elderly care quality systems and operations.

It does not constitute statutory or regulatory certification, accreditation approval, legal certification, or formal assessment by an accrediting authority. Where specialised professional or statutory review is required, appropriate qualified professionals or authorities should be engaged.

Understand Where You Stand.
Improve What Matters.

The ECQO Review gives management a structured view of the organisation today, identifies the areas that require attention, and provides a practical roadmap for what should come next.

Let's Discuss Your Organisation

Every elderly care organisation is different. The scope and complexity of the ECQO Review are therefore determined based on the organisation's size, service model, existing systems and requirements.
